Elevating Luxury Driving with OpenAI’s ChatGPT
Mercedes-Benz has announced its plans to incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the voice control systems of certain luxury vehicle models. In a recent press release, the renowned car manufacturer revealed that it will be integrating the AI chatbot into vehicles equipped with Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), an advanced multimedia infotainment system introduced in 2018. Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service will facilitate the integration of ChatGPT into the car systems.
Starting from June 16, Mercedes-Benz will introduce an optional beta phase for over 900,000 MBUX-equipped vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz X 294 model. This beta phase is scheduled to run for approximately three months. By integrating ChatGPT, the automaker aims to enhance the naturalness of the car system’s responses and enable seamless, hands-free conversations between the driver and the AI chatbot, ensuring the driver’s focus remains on the road.
While Mercedes-Benz takes this step, it joins the ranks of other automakers exploring the integration of ChatGPT into their vehicles. In March, General Motors revealed its interest in incorporating the AI chatbot to enable drivers to access information from their vehicle’s manual or integrate their calendars seamlessly into the car system, as stated by GM President Scot Miller.
